Chironomidae

Chironomid larvae are cooked in KOH before being mounted on slides face up with their heads attached to their bodies. Chironomus sp. are not usually mounted due to being identifiable by their gills. Chironomidae pupae are also sometimes present, but they are not identifiable and are simply counted.
