Please join the Great Lakes Center for a seminar presented by John Volpe. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, October 7th from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Science Building, Room 272.
John Volpe's seminar will discuss his scientific studies in western New York of snapping, wood, and painted turtle habitat, longevity, deformity, mortality, and fertility in connection with such environmental factors as pollution and man-made vibrations. He will also discuss the role of a Native American worldview in his research and understandings of ecological and spiritual aspects of human-animal interaction, with turtles of Turtle Island as teachers.
John Volpe is an Algonquin Elder, Healer, Protector of Wildlife, and an environmental activist. For many years he has conducted in our region independent scientific studies and reports on turtles and fish. He has given numerous talks in local communities and high schools and has been a consultant to environmental organizations.
