The Great Lakes Center administers two interdisciplinary applied environmental science programs in Great Lakes Ecosystem Science (GLES), a thesis-based Master of Arts (MA) and an internship-based Professional Science Master’s (PSM) Master of Science (MS) program. Both programs are designed to provide students with the opportunity to attain a broad understanding of the physical, chemical, biological, and social factors that comprise the Great Lakes ecosystems. The program currently has a job placement rate near 90% and GLES MA and MS graduates are working for both public and private environmental science organizations.
Funding is available through one Graduate Assistant (GA) appointment starting in the 2018-2019 academic year. GA lines are preferentially awarded to students in the MA program. The GA appointment includes an in-state tuition scholarship (up to 9 credits per semester) and a $7,500 stipend and is renewable for a second year if the student is making satisfactory academic progress. Graduate applications must be received by April 1 to be considered for GA funding.
