Alicia Pérez-Fuentetaja, professor of biology and research scientist with the Great Lakes Center, was featured in a video posted by Newsy, an online video news site. The video details the findings of research Pérez-Fuentetaja conducted with Diana Aga, chemistry professor at the University at Buffalo.
The study found that fish had higher levels of antidepressants than other drugs, chemicals, and personal-care products. Pérez-Fuentetaja told Newsy, “Wastewater treatment plants don’t have the capacity to remove pharmaceuticals and personal care products…the only thing we can do is actually clean up our act.”
