A new johnboat has been added to the research fleet housed at Buffalo State’s Great Lakes Center field station on Buffalo’s waterfront.
“These boats are especially useful on rivers and small lakes,” said Mark Clapsadl (pictured), a fisheries biologist who is manager of the field station. Clapsadl hopes to equip the johnboat for electrofishing—used as a research tool when working with fish populations in their natural habitats.
The new boat joins a number of other vessels and Boston Whalers used by Buffalo State researchers and faculty members; the total number is 12. Larger research vessels include the John J. Freidhoff and the Seiche. “We hope to add a third research vessel soon,” said Clapsadl.
